A Hudson Valley gang member was convicted for the violent murder and robbery of a Hudson Valley man.

On Tuesday in Southern District of New York Court, 27-year-old Jeffery Herring of Sullivan County was convicted for robbing and murdering Michael Northcote in 2015.

According to court papers and evidence admitted at trial, Herring was a member of the Askari in Sullivan County. The Askari is a subset of the Bloods gang that engaged in, among other things, robberies, shootings and drug dealings.

On October 12, 2015, Herring and four other people, including other gang members, carried out a home-invasion robbery at Northcote’s home on Cohen & Cohen Road in Swan Lake.

“Jeffrey Herring, as a member of the Bloods gang Askari, carried out a violent home-invasion robbery with fellow gang members and senselessly murdered Michael Northcote,” Acting U.S. Attorney Joon H. Kim said. “A unanimous jury convicted him of racketeering and murder, holding him accountable for his brutal crimes.”

Following a two-week trial in a jury found Herring guilty of murder through the use of a firearm, murder in aid of racketeering, conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery and conspiring to violate the racketeering laws.

Herring faces 20 years to life in prison when sentenced in Nov.
