An international star living in the Hudson Valley, who won multiple Grammys, including a lifetime achievement award, died.

Jessye Norman died at the age of 74 on Monday. Norman's soprano opera voice won her four Grammys and the National Medal of Arts. She also received the Kennedy Center Honor and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

NBC reports, Norman died due to septic shock and multi-organ failure following complications of a spinal cord injury she suffered in 2015.

"We are so proud of Jessye's musical achievements and the inspiration that she provided to audiences around the world that will continue to be a source of joy. We are equally proud of her humanitarian endeavors addressing matters such as hunger, homelessness, youth development, and arts and culture education," the family statement read, according to NBC.

For many years, Norman lived in Westchester County. Her home in Croton-on-Hudson was called "The White Gates."
