Remembering bassist Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix Experience on what would have been his 70th birthday today (Dec. 25).

Noel Redding joined the Jimi Hendrix Experience at it's formation in 1966 and left in 1969. He switched from guitar to bass upon joining the band and played on three classic albums (Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love, and Electric Ladyland). Those albums were listed on Rolling Stone magazine's list among the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Redding also performed at some legendary concerts. He died in 2003 at the age of 57 due to complications from cirrhosis of the liver.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. A collection called The Experience Sessions was released in 2004 that included rare and unreleased Noel Redding penned songs. The cd features mostly outtakes from the Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland sessions.
