The FDA has given food manufacturers three years to phase of the use of artificail trans fats.

It has been two years since the FDA deemed trans-fats unsafe to eat, and now they're laying down the law. Food manufacturers have three years to stop using PHOs in their products. The companies can petition the FDA for a special permit to use it, but no PHOs can be added to human food unless otherwise approved by the FDA, as reported by CNN.

Eating a diet high in trans-fat can lead to weight gain, heart disease, and memory loss. Companies like McDonald's stopped cooking thier their fries in trans fat over a decade ago.

The FDA based its decision on reports from a scientific panel, as well as petitions from citizens, as reported by Newsweek.
