FDA Bans Trans Fats From American Food Products
The FDA has given food manufacturers three years to phase of the use of artificail trans fats.
It has been two years since the FDA deemed trans-fats unsafe to eat, and now they're laying down the law. Food manufacturers have three years to stop using PHOs in their products. The companies can petition the FDA for a special permit to use it, but no PHOs can be added to human food unless otherwise approved by the FDA, as reported by CNN.
Eating a diet high in trans-fat can lead to weight gain, heart disease, and memory loss. Companies like McDonald's stopped cooking thier their fries in trans fat over a decade ago.
The FDA based its decision on reports from a scientific panel, as well as petitions from citizens, as reported by Newsweek.
