ESPN has suspended Keith Olbermann from his show for the remainder of the week.

The suspension comes after Olbermann called Penn State students "pitiful" in a series of tweets on Twitter, as reported by Hollywood Reporter.

The whole thing started when a Penn State student tweeted Olbermann with "We Are!" and a link to an announcement that students had raised $13 million for pediatric cancer.

Olbermann responded with "...pitiful", which triggered a bunch of angry tweets from other Penn State Students.

Olbermann's tweets have since been removed from Twitter, but he defended his position saying that he was not insulting the fundraiser, rather the Penn State students in general. He also proceeded to throw many more insults at the students and the administration of the University.

ESPN released a statement:

We are aware of the exchange Keith Olbermann had on Twitter last night regarding Penn State. It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the views of ESPN. We have discussed it with Keith, who recognizes he was wrong. ESPN and Keith have agreed that he will not host his show for the remainder of this week and will return on Monday. The annual tradition of THON and the efforts of the students of Penn State to fight pediatric cancer should be applauded

Olbermann did tweet an apology:
