Last week's heavy rains gave way to a rock slide on a mountain pass road in the Catskills on Saturday.

Platte Clove Road was closed Saturday following the landslide. The road cuts between the Indian Head Wilderness and the Kaaterskill Wild Forest. Platte Clove is the only Catskill pass available between Route 23A and Route 28. It provides critical access to Hunter and Tannersville. The narrow road inclines steadily and is closed in winter because of the plowing challenge it presents and the potential hazardous weather conditions for driver.

The rock slide likely took place mid-afternoon on Saturday and occurred on the Greene County side some 100 yards from the snow plow turn, according to the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. Fortunately, no cars were passing on the road and no one was injured from the landslide.

The road was closed as the Town of Hunter Highway Department worked Monday to clear the debris. The road reopened Tuesday morning.
