Beloved Lower Hudson Valley Restaurant Destroyed
A beloved Hudson Valley diner, where some of Hollywood's biggest names would dine at, has been destroyed by a fire.
On Thursday around 9:45 a.m., while customers were enjoying breakfast, a fire broke out inside the kitchen at the Landmark Diner in Briarcliff Manor.
First responders arrived on the scene with a heavy exterior smoke condition present. Soon, heavy fire was found in the dining area with heavy fire also developing from the roof.
Crews attempted to make entry and control the fire but were then removed from the interior as conditions rapidly deteriorated, officials say.
When the fire was finally put out, in the evening, the beloved eatery was destroyed and will have to be demolished.
“Thank you to the first responders that came to the scene and valiantly fought the intense fire. We are also thankful for the huge outpouring from the Ossining and Briarcliff Manor communities, including the Gullotta House and the many local officials that have reached out to us,” Landmark Diner Owner Aristidis Thanos said on Facebook.
Thanos, the owner of the diner for the past 17 years, plans to rebuild.
“We will rally through this tragedy and come out on the other side stronger than before. The show must go on, and so, we will rebuild our much-loved diner into a true ‘Landmark’ again.”
Photos of the fire and battle with the blaze can be seen below.
In a Facebook post, the Ossining Police Department said the diner is a business that supports the Hudson Valley. Students from Marist stopped by the diner earlier this summer, according to a Facebook post.
Jerry Seinfeld has taken other celebrities to the diner.
No injuries to customers were reported but four firefighters were treated for injuries.
