One person was killed another injured after their plane crashed just after takeoff in the Hudson Valley. According to ABC, an Aeronca 7AC aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff Saturday from Randall Airport in Middletown.

Sources tell Hudson Valley Post the small plane went down just after 9 a.m. on Dolsontown Road in the Town of Wallkill. The aircraft landed in a tree in a swampy area.

The plane's pilot, 53-year-old Aaron D. Panken, was killed in the crash. His unnamed passenger was taken to a local hospital.

Panken was a rabbi in the New York City area and the president of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. A spokesperson told ABC Panken was a skilled pilot.

As of this writing, the cause of the crash is unclear, but the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
