Three Ways You Can Help the 30 Victims of the Wappingers Fire
The Village of Wappingers was devastated by a four-alarm fire that ripped through several businesses and residences this weekend. The more than 30 people that were displaced need your help.
The fire took place during a village wide festival that was to celebrate main street's recent revitalization. New restaurants, bars and businesses have been opening and people have been flocking to the village in recent months. Now, many fear the fire has put the brakes on any momentum the local businesses have been gaining.
For those that want to help the residents and businesses affected by the fire there are a few things that can be done.
Graceland Tattoo is hosting a day of small walk in tattoos on Sunday, June 11. all proceeds will be donated to those immediately affected by the fire. They will also be accepting cash donations, gift cards and comfort items. More details on the event is available on their Facebook page.
Donations are also being accepted right now at the American Legion on Spring Street in the Village of Wappingers. Volunteers are accepting all material donations in good condition. Any types of home goods and clothing are needed as well as non-perishable food items. Volunteers willing to help sort and distribute items are also needed. You can contact Kristin Catalano from the Wappingers Falls Business & Professional Association for more details at WappingersFallsBPA@gmail.com.
Finally, a Go Fund Me page has been set up to help assist the families and businesses who were affected by the fire. Money will also go towards helping the businesses that remain open but continue to be affected by the fire's aftermath. Power outages and property damage are just some of the obstacles they will need to overcome. In just 15 hours the fund's goal of $5,000 was just shy of being met.
If you know of someone affected by the fire that needs assistance, reach out and let us know so we can spread the word. In the meantime, be sure to patronize the businesses that are still open in the Village of Wappingers as they work hard to overcome this major setback.
