Some Hudson Valley Pizzerias Could Soon Close Down For Good

A number of pizzerias in the Hudson Valley are in danger of being closed down.

Pizza Hut announced as many 500 stores are being shut down, Food Business News reports. The company plans to shift more focus on delivery and carryout.

“We are leaning in to accelerate the transition of our Pizza Hut U.S. asset base to truly modern delivery/carryout assets,” Yum! Brands President David W. Gibbs said during an earnings call. “This will ultimately strengthen the Pizza Hut business in the U.S. and set it up for a faster long-term growth."

The company hasn't announced which stores will close but said "underperforming dine-in restaurants" will be shut down.

In the United States, there are around 6,100 dine-in Pizza Hut locations and 1,350 express units. The closures will likely drop the Pizza Hut store count to 7,000 (dine-in and express Pizza Huts) over the next two years, officials say.

“We are excited about collaborating with franchisees who are capable, well-capitalized, committed to the brand and who have a growth mindset to accelerate the closure of underperforming dine-in stores and replacement with new delivery or fast-casual delivery assets,” Yum! Brands CEO Greg Creed said.

There are dine-in Pizza Hut locations in Goshen, Middletown, Newburgh, Kingston, Monticello, Liberty, Catskill and Mohegan Lake.
