If we listen to folk lore, then we must be in luck.

I think everyone has heard that if a ladybug lands on you it's good luck, right? Well there must be a ton of luck heading our way in the Hudson Valley. Have you noticed an insane amount of ladybugs flying in and around your home?

You're not alone!

Why Are There So Many Ladybugs in the Hudson Valley This Year?

While walking my dog this week, I noticed way more ladybugs than normal buzzing around outside. I don't know about you, but I usually see a single ladybug maybe once or twice a month if that. Yesterday alone I saw about 10 flying around and crawling on my windows.

I know I'm not alone because I've seen about 20 social media posts about others dealing with the same lady bug invasion. So, I did a little research.

Turns out this is completely normal. And it all has to do with the weather.

Warm Hudson Valley October Brings Tons of Ladybugs Home

This isn't anything new. Apparently, ladybugs are just trying to enjoy the last days of warm weather.

The Farmers Almanac explains that now that its getting cooler outside, ladybug will do just about anything to find warmth. The sun beating down on your house this week is probably making it a cozy target for the cute bugs. The Farmers Almanac writes:

As the nights cool, the bugs gravitate to warm places during the day (soaking up the sun’s rays on your house). They will do anything or go anyplace for a bit of warmth. In fact, if there is a tiny opening around a window or door, they find their way in and seem to invite all of their relatives.

After weeks of rain over the weekend, and welcomed chilly fall weather, the Hudson Valley has fallen back to September-like weather with temperatures set to reach the high 70s this weekend.

Needless to say, the ladybugs are going to love it. Don't be alarmed, ladybugs are harmless...for the most part. If you have an intense infestation, according to the Farmers Almanac, ladybugs can "damage carpets and furniture with their secretions."

The more you know, I guess.
