I'm not where I saw it, probably on one of those astrological Instagram accounts (I'm a horoscope girlie) but when we turn the calendar, on the 1st day of the month, I always say "Rabbit, Rabbit."

Some say that it will bring you good luck throughout the month. It's 2024, you never know what's going to happen so I'm not taking any chances. Happy 1st of the month, RABBIT RABBIT!

Since I had no idea where this superstition came from I decided to do a little deep dive and in my research I found a fun little Hudson Valley tie in.

Monthly Superstition Has Interesting Ties to The Hudson Valley

The Farmers Almanac explains that many cultures believe that rabbits are a common symbol for good luck, positivity, fertility, and growth.

According to the Almanac, the origins of "Rabbit, Rabbit" comes from the United Kingdom and may have been inspired by the story Alice in Wonderland which was originally released in 1865.

The argument is that Alice is "luckily" lead by a white rabbit through her Wonderland adventure.

With that being said, the Farmers Almanac goes on to explain that a prominent historical figure was a big believer in the "rabbit, rabbit" superstition. The Farmers Almanac writes President Franklin Delano Roosevelt claimed to say “rabbits” on the first of each month."

They go on to add:

He was known to carry a lucky rabbit’s foot during the 1932 presidential election, which he won by a landslide—becoming the first Democrat to win both the electoral college and the popular vote in 80 years

This makes us wonder if he left behind his "lucky rabbit's foot" at his estate in Hyde Park?
