In Your Opinion, Are Thanksgiving Foods Overrated?

I may have started a little controversy earlier this week when I stated on the air and on social media that I'm not a fan of the Thanksgiving spread. It's overrated. Turkey is, meh. Mashed potatoes? I could do without. Mac & Cheese, if the cook messes it up the day is ruined.

So yes, I stand behind Thanksgiving food being overrated.

Hear me out!

During my Thanksgiving, my Italian family goes overboard. So there's antipasto, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed shells and eggplant parmesan all before the turkey is brought out.

We asked the Hudson Valley to give us their opinion if Thanksgiving foods were overrated and we received some great responses.

One comment said "Thanksgiving Food will never be overrated. It’s a feast that many of us have worked hard for and looked forward to all year!!"

Another added:

You can not over rate sharing a meal with loved ones and giving thanks for the food and each other.
If you want something overrated I’d vote for Black Friday!
There were, surprisingly, some in agreement and explained their opinion in a fantastic way. The comment reads: "Turkey is over rated. Turkey is like a hot dog you have to add stuff to it to make it edible."
Fantastic point!

The Most Hated Thanksgiving Foods

A company recently did a survey, kind of like our opinion question above, asking American's their most hated Thanksgiving food.

According to The Vacationer, "More than one-third of all American adults said their most disliked traditional Thanksgiving food is turkey."

Desserts like Pumpkin Pie and Apple Pie also made the list coming in with 21.50% and 13.72% percent of the vote.

A Breakdown of The Most Popular Thanksgiving Sides By State

When I cook my side dishes for Thanksgiving (yes, I think the food is overrated but I still participate!) I always check All Recipes for new and interesting dishes to bring.

This year while scrolling All Recipes I came across a list of "The Most Popular Thanksgiving Side Dish In Every State." All Recipes used their data to "determine the most popular side dishes around the country."

The #1 Thanksgiving recipe of all time on All Recipes is Sweet Potato Casserole. This popular side dish was #1 side dish in 16 states including New York and Connecticut.  The recipe on All Recipes with the most usage includes brown sugar and a pecan topping.

I like mine with toasted marshmallows too, but that's just me.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving side dish?
