Monday, August 24: Remembering Molly Hatchet’s Danny Joe Brown on His Birthday

Today (Aug. 24), we remember original Molly Hatchet singer Danny Joe Brown on his birthday. He would have been 64. He co-wrote and sang on some of the southern rock band's biggest hits including 'Flirtin' with Disaster', 'Whiskey Man', and the Allman Bos. Band cover 'Dreams I'll Never See', and was known for his distinctive growl.

Brown left Molly Hatchet in 1980 due to chronic diabetes and pancreatic problems. After forming his own band, The Danny Joe Brown Band, he would eventually make a return to the band in 1982 but would once again leave the due to a stroke in 1995.

Danny Joe Brown died in March of 2005 from renal failure, a complication from diabetes which he battled since he was 19 years old.
