High-tech scammers posing as Central Hudson are scamming Hudson Valley residents.

City of Poughkeepsie police received a number of reports of a telephone scam targeting local Central Hudson customers.

The victim will receive a phone call with a caller ID that appears to be Central Hudson, police say. The scammer then says your power is about to be shut off due to a non-payment and directs you to buy a debit card or money order to make immediate payments.

The scammer leaves a phone number that when called is a copied recording of Central Hudson's actual phone system greeting, according to City of Poughkeepsie police.

Central Hudson is aware of the scam and doesn't demand the payments mentioned by the scammer, police say. For more information on Central Hudson scams, click here.
