Watch Dream Theater’s Mike Mangini Jam Van Halen, Black Sabbath + More on a Set of Buckets
Dream Theater drummer Mike Mangini is one versatile musician. Never is that more clear than when the drummer is dishing out some classic rock sides from bands like Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Rush on a kit assembled out of household items such as buckets, colanders and trash can lids. Check it out below.
Indeed, Boston radio station WAAF 107.3 captured the epic drum routine in a clip posted Wednesday. In it, Mangini jokes he's "not a singer" while putting his own rhythmic spin on the iconic tunes in front of host Mistress Carrie.
"Dream Theater's Mike Mangini is arguably one of the greatest drummers in the world," the vid's description reads. "So we decided to put his skills to the test using a drum kit made out of buckets, pasta colanders, a trash lid, and anything else we had lying around!"
The special drum kit, constructed by Amson HVAC's Sean Corcoran and featuring contributions from Pearl Drums and Vater Percussion, was donated to the Cats n Jammers music school for kids after it was used by Mangini.
Mangini, who landed the dream role of Dream Theater drummer back in 2011, performed on the band's latest album, Distance Over Time, released last year. Hear the drummer's thoughts on making the album in the conversation below.
