A toddler was found walking near train tracks in the Hudson Valley. Police then searched for hours for the child's missing mother.

On Thursday just before noon, officers from the Town of Wallkill Police Department responded to a report of a child found near a home on Maples Road.

Arriving officers were met by the homeowner who said he found a toddler in the woods behind his home. The 3-year-old was evaluated by Mobile Life Support Services who found the child to be in good health, officials say.

A subsequent investigation determined the toddler and her mother, Amanda Light of Wallkill, were seen walking along the railroad tracks behind Maples Road, police say.

Following an extensive search, over six hours after the child was found, New York State Forest Rangers located Light in the woods behind Route 17M, not far from where the child was found, according to Google Maps.

Light was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where she is being evaluated.
