A teenage girl lost her life when she was hit by a car while walking in Ulster County.

On Thursday around 2:30 p.m., members of the Ulster County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Lucas Avenue Extension near Spring Lake Drive in the Town of Ulster.

A preliminary investigation revealed that 69-year-old Carol Melame of Kerhonkson was driving south on Lucas Avenue Extension when her 2007 Infiniti sedan hit 17-year-old Jennifer Curry of Kingston as she was walking north on the shoulder of the road, police say.

Mobile Life Support services transported the Curry to Health Alliance Broadway Campus where she subsequently succumbed to her injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Police was assisted at the scene by the Town of Ulster Police and the Spring Lake Fire Department.
