On this day (Aug. 27, 1990) we lost blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan. Vaughan died in a helicopter crash at the age of 35. He had just performed a concert with Eric Clapton at Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin.

On this day (Aug. 27, 1990) we lost blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan. Vaughan died in a helicopter crash at the age of 35. He had just performed a concert with Eric Clapton at Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin. In his short life, Vaughan was widely considered one of the most influential guitarists in the history of blues music and was important to the blues revival in the 1980'

He was at the point where his name was being mentioned alongside Jimi Hendrix. Then it all came to a stop.

A sense of not-quite-finished business made his tragic death a few years later even more difficult to accept.

He was continuing to redefine the guitar in ways arguably not seen since Jimi Hendrix's death.

Tribute to a life and career that ended too soon took place nearly five years after a helicopter crash killed him.
