When it comes to locally crafted hard cider, the farm-to-bottle movement is alive and well. Hard cider has been a Hudson Valley commodity for years, often made in small batches or at family farms.

It’s fall — that means school’s back in session, the days are getting shorter, and there’s less time for a faraway vacation. But, you don’t actually have to go very far to enjoy a getaway this season.

The following Mid-Hudson-based markets offer farm-fresh goods, handcrafted items, and entertainment into the cooler months.

Some orchards offer their doughnuts throughout the year, while others do so only for the season, and here are just a few of the many regional farms where you can get your fill of fresh cider doughnuts.

Being at the Dutchess County Fair this week has been great.  But it always reminds me that summer is almost over, which is kind of sad.  Until I remember that fall in the Hudson Valley is even better than summer!  Pick your own apples, fresh apple cider, and donuts made right in front of you, so you can eat them hot...
