A sex offender is accused of moving from one Hudson Valley county to another without telling the police.

Investigators from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office charged 31-year-old Mikell A. Phillips of the Town of Greenville with failure to register as a sex offender, a prior offense, a felony.

The arrest was a result of an investigation into the verification of an address that Phillips reported to be living in the Town of Greenville in November of 2018, police say.

In February 2019, investigators conducted a spot check of the home and noticed boarded up windows and doors and saw no appearance the residence was occupied, officials say.

A further investigation revealed the property was foreclosed on in July of 2018 and the occupants were evicted from the home in December of 2018, according to police.

Investigators then learned Phillips was allegedly living at a home in Ellenville and not the address he gave to authorities.

He was arrested after he allegedly failed to update his new address within the 10-day window, as mandated by NYS law.

Phillips was remanded to the Orange County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
