A Hudson Valley man is accused of speeding and driving over two times the legal limit of intoxication near a local elementary school while school was in session.

On Tuesday just before 1 p.m., Red Hook police stopped a car for allegedly doubling the posted speed limit near the Red Hook Mill Road Elementary School.

Kevin E. Conklin, 58, of Rhinecliff is accused of driving 50 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour school zone on Rockefeller Lane in Red Hook.

During the traffic stop, the officer noticed that Conklin appeared to be drunk. Conklin provided a breath sample which determined his blood alcohol level was .19 percent -- over twice the legal limit of intoxication, police say.

Conklin was charged with aggravated DWI and two counts of drunk driving, all misdemeanors. He was also given tickets for speeding in a school zone.

Conklin was processed and released on tickets with a future court date.
