Hudson Valley residents were terrified to see a local school's picture was changed to an assault weapon.

As of 4 p.m. on Thursday, if you Googled "Crispell Middle School" along with a photo from outside the Pine Bush school and a map of the middle school is a picture of what appears to be an assault weapon.

"The picture for Crispell Middle School in Pine Bush, NY was changed recently by somebody (it says it was changed in September). This is what it was changed to; I just think everyone should be cautious," Alec Martin wrote on Facebook while sharing a screenshot. You can see the photo by clicking the above blue text.

A spokesperson from Crispell Middle School told Hudson Valley Post school officials are aware of the picture change and are looking into the matter. A request for comment from the Pine Bush superintendent hasn't been returned as of this writing.

The district filed a formal request with Google requesting that Google remove the photograph, according to the Crawford Police Department.

The Crawford Police Department is also aware of the photo change and police are investigating.

Chief Dominick Blasko tells Hudson Valley Post officers are confident the photo is a "stock photo." Blasko adds a joint statement from police and school officials will likely be released later.

The police have established that the photo was taken from an online site – Reddit, and is not a picture that was locally source, police say.

Multiple sources tell Hudson Valley Post the think the weapon to be mp5 semi-automatic. Blasko wasn't able to confirm what the weapon is.

It's unclear who changed the photo. The person's Google name is "Hey I’m Hey I’m."

This is a developing story. We will update if more information is made available.
