Orange County Block Party Leads to Gun Shots
An Orange County block party resulted in an arrest over the weekend.
On Saturday, at approximately at 10:30 p.m. there was a Shot Spotter Activation in the area of South Lander Street and Courtney Street, in the City of Newburgh.
Officers responded and were met by a large crowd attending a block party. The crowd was estimated to be roughly 200 people. Officers were not able to to safely control the crowd, so additional officers from Town of New Windsor, Town of Newburgh and New York State Police responded to assist with crowd control while the incident was investigated.
Officers received information that black male with braids, wearing a white t-shirt was shooting a gun in the air. Officers stopped a man matching the description and he was found to be in possession of two semi-automatic handguns.
He was identified as Jermaine L. Monroe of Walden N.Y. Further investigation found that he and his wife are both legal gun owners, each possess a valid handgun permit in Sullivan County.
Monroe's wife was also in possession of a .380 semi-automatic handgun. In addition to these threefirearms, four more were recovered from the Monroe’s vehicle, two semi-automatic handguns andtwo long guns.
Monroe was charged with Reckless Endangerment first-degree, felony. He was processed and held pending arraignment.
