New York DEC Captures Footage Of Ships Loose In The Hudson River
Eight large vessels came loose from their moorings on the Hudson River Friday morning. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation was able to capture some dramatic footage via drone. The incident occurred just north of Albany and was a result of heavy ice on the river which after rain and temperature swings from single digits to the '40s, broke the ships free from their docks.
The eight vessels included a 300-foot cruise boat which was badly damaged after getting stuck on a railroad bridge. The boat can be seen coming into frame at around the two-minute mark in the video. Several of the barges can also be seen floating with no crew.
Each of the ships was secured and brought back to dock with varying degrees of damage. According to the New York State Bridge Authority who were actively monitoring the situation, the incident did not pose any danger to bridges south of the Capital District.
