New York Catholic Schools Closed Until April 20

The announcement extends the closures already in place.

According to the Superintendent of Catholic Schools Mr. Michael J. Deegan, all Catholic Schools within the Archdiocese of New York have extended the closure of all elementary schools through Monday, April 20, 2020.

These closures affect all Catholic Schools in the Hudson Valley including St. Mary's in Fishkill, St. Martin De Porres in Poughkeepsie, Holy Trinity and many more.

Catholic Schools had originally been closed for two weeks because of the Coronavirus pandemic but after consulting with many health professionals, the Health and Safety Task Force of the Office of the Superintendent of Schools have made this decision out of concern for the well-being of students, families and staff.

According to the Catholic Schools website they believe this decision will help to successfully decrease risk of contracting or spreading the Covid-19 virus.

With the extended closing, they also said that "most teachers will continue to plan for a long-term, home-based learning experience, which will include the same religious, values-infused curriculum we teach every day of the year, utilizing innovative strategies and technology."
