Unfortunately some in the Hudson Valley decided not to party responsibly and that led to numerous arrests over Superbowl weekend. The New York State Police, Dutchess County Sherriff's Office along with Poughkeepsie, Beacon and other local police departments conducted Impaired Driving details which consisted of Saturation Patrols during the 3 day period (beginning 1/31 and ending 2/2). These extra details were funded by the Governors Traffic Safety Board and the New York State Stop DWI Foundation.

Dutchess County STOP-DWI Coordinator William Johnson had this to say:

Participation in the Statewide Super Bowl Crackdown allows Law Enforcement to identify and apprehend those who choose to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It also demonstrates and reaffirms law enforcement’s commitment to the shared mission of preventing injuries and deaths on our roadways, all of which are 100% preventable. The Super bowl has become one of America’s most highly anticipated sports events where friends and family gather to celebrate. This effort is aimed at keeping the roadways safe for all users. It is also a reminder for fans and party goers to be responsible. Walk, ride and carpool. Call a cab or friend. Simply don’t drive, it not worth the risk.

We all know by now that Tom Brady and New England got lucky at the end of the big game. Had it not been for the last minute interception, it could have been an entirely different outcome.
