I love exploring all that the Hudson Valley has to offer! From new eateries to hidden gems and popular destinations, we can never get bored in our area.

Each county within the Hudson Valley has it’s own vibe. I love visiting the Ulster County, NY area, especially near Phoenicia, NY. I always say that the air smells cleaner up there and feels more crisp.

While in that area, I had to explore Phoenicia, NY and most certainly tried a top attraction while there.

Is This Top Attraction In Ulster County, NY Actually Worth It?

The answer to this question is, absolutely! If you love being outdoors like I do and seeing beautiful, lush views then this is something for you to explore.

Besides in the Catskills, their other location in New York state is in Cooperstown. One of Rail Explorers locations is located within the Catskills, in Phoenicia, NY.

Here's What You Should Know About Rail Explorers In The Hudson Valley

There’s plenty of things that I learned while visiting this popular, Ulster County destination. 

1. Take time to explore the Phoenicia, NY area too! You can visit the Empire State Railroad Museum, Phoenicia Diner and take a drive into the tiny hamlet of Phoenicia as well.
2. If you have a bunch of questions, be sure to call them. They can go over the different experiences available including The River Run, Golden Hour Tour, Mt. Tremper Express and more.
3. Be sure to arrive early at Rail Explorers to learn about the experience, choose your explorer/ seat and more.
4. Guests can bring food with them, which is a great idea! When I went on Rail Explorers, we had the option of getting off and taking a break at picnic tables with pretty views. Food, water, sunscreen and sunglasses are a good idea.
5. Be in the present moment and take in the scenic views.There may be limited cell phone service. It’s not everyday that we get to ride through the Catskills, Ulster County, NY area on Rail Explorers. Enjoy!

How Long Are The Excursions At Rail Explorers In The Catskills?

While I was on an explorer, I didn’t check the time of when we started and ended but they usually recommend certain times for each experience.

On The River Run, Rail Explorers suggest about 2.5 hours as to the Mt. Tremper Lantern Ride which may only be 90 minutes.
