If you’re a medical cannabis patient, you’re in the clear. Registered medical patients (or their designated caregivers)and their caregivers can grow up to six plants at home. This means three flowering plants and three immature ones. So, if you rely on medical cannabis, you can now have your little supply right at home.

If you use marijuana recreationally, you can grow it at home too as long as you are twenty-one and over. Each adult can have six plants, with three of those being mature and three immature. But keep in mind, there’s a household limit. No matter how many adults live there, you can’t exceed twelve plants.

There are some important rules to follow, though. Your marijuana plants need to be kept in a secure spot, away from public view. And, most crucially, they must be out of reach for anyone under twenty-one.

Even though the law allows home growing it’s a good idea to check the latest guidelines from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management, just to make sure you’re fully compliant with all regulations.

So, if you’ve got a green thumb and are interested in cultivating your own cannabis, make sure you’re up to date on the rules. That way, you can enjoy your home-grown marijuana legally and responsibly.
