Multiple Agencies Come to the Aid of a Tree Worker Who Fell 100 Feet

According to information shared by the Rosendale Police Department at approximately 11:25 AM Wednesday they were called to assist a person who had fallen into a cavern. A worker had dropped 100 feet into a natural cavern while trimming trees.

Both the Rosendale Police Department and the Bloomington Fire Department were called to the scene just off Hickory Bush Road. When the agencies arrived they located the worker deep inside the cavern.

Multiple agencies were called to assist once the situation had been evaluated. Additional emergency resources who assisted in the rescue included Ulster County Emergency Management, the City of Kingston Fire Department Rope Rescue Team, Empress Ambulance, and the Marbletown First Aid Unit.

It was reported that the accident occurred when the individual who had been working clearing trees alongside the Central Hudson high-power lines may have been struck by a falling limb resulting in the fall into the cavern.

When the fall occurred two co-workers repealed down into the cavern to assist while they waited for help. The St. Remy Fire Department also responded to the scene with a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) which was used to transport the Rope Rescue Team and equipment to the site.

Rescue Of Man Who Fell into Cavern Takes Almost Two Hours

It reportedly took about an hour and a half of non-stop work by the Kingston Fire Department team to free the worker who was successfully lifted out of the cavern along with the two rescuers. The worker was then transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for injuries that resulted from the fall.
