We're heading into the busy shopping season of the year, and it's times like these when I think back to holiday shopping in the 90s.

Holiday Shopping Across the Hudson Valley in the 90s

I grew up in Dutchess County so I spent a lot of time going to the Poughkeepsie Galleria and South Hills Mall in my teens and 20s.

Maybe it's just me, but I can vividly remember the sounds and smells of the South Hills Mall in Poughkeepsie. That Burger King in the food court was potent.

Does anyone else remember Santa in center court? After shopping at Media Play or Bobs, then heading down to see the halls of the mall decked out in festive décor. There was nothing better!

Relive The Magic of The South Hills Mall

In my walk down memory lane, I decided to see if I could find any photos or videos of the South Hills Mall to relive the magic.

I stumbled upon a goldmine of videos of commercials and inside looks at the South Hills Mall. Do you remember this South Hills Mall commercial from 1993?

That KMart was the place to be! So many memories of Back-to-School and holiday shopping. Was it just me or did the South Hills Mall KMart always smell like popcorn?

No trip to the South Hill Mall was complete without a visit to Bobs. Pretty sure that's where I found my favorite Charlotte Hornets Starter Jacket and Champion t-shirts and shorts for summer camp...before it was cool!

South Hills Mall Closes

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. The South Hills Mall closed back in 2007. Thankfully, I also stumbled upon a video that was filmed of the South Hills Mall in 2005.

I wonder if people were talking about this on Myspace?

It hurts my heart to see Media Play empty. I waited on several lines at 12 am for midnight releases (anyone else get Backstreet Boys Millennium album there too?).
