Parking Violations in Kingston Will Cost More Money in 2025

A select number of parking violations in Kingston, New York are set to rise in the new year.

Last month Kingston Mayor Steve Noble announced that his office was considering increasing fines for certain parking violations that are somewhat common in Kingston, NY. Noble made the announcement at the November Common Council’s Finance and Audit Committee meeting suggesting that the city raise the fines for select violations from $20 to $50.

Parking Fines Rise in Kingston, New York

Noble suggested that the higher fines would be for anyone ticketed for violations including parking in front of a fire hydrant, parking in a no-parking zone, double parking, and parking in a handicapped space without an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) tag. Previously, these violations would cost offenders less than what an expired meter ticket would cost, which according to Noble "didn’t seem fair".

Noble also said that higher fines are in response to some of the biggest complaints his office receives so he wanted to make sure the issues were addressed and hopes that the higher fines will serve as a deterrent for anyone who thinks about parking illegally. The fine increase announcement comes as the City of Kingston prepares to offer shoppers free 2-hour holiday parking in the city's municipal parking lots and at city meters. The free holiday parking period starts Saturday, December 14, and will be available through Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

Parking Permits in Kingston

Currently, Kingston is offering a discounted price for its 2025 parking permits with the permits currently priced at $100 but will increase to $150 on January 1, 2025, so get yours by December 31st, 2024 to lock in discounted pricing according to the the city's website. The 2025 parking permits are available for purchase now online here and are valid from January 1st, 2025 through December 31st, 2025.
