Who Are The Hudson Valley Venom?
There's a new hockey team in town! The Hudson Valley Venom recently took the ice at the MJN Convention Center in Poughkeepsie earlier this year.
The Hudson Valley Venom are part of the Federal Prospect Hockey League along with teams like the Danbury Hat Tricks, The Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Motor City Rockers.
In it's 15th year the FPHL's continuing mission is to "deliver top-tier family entertainment at affordable prices, spanning a spectrum of vibrant hockey markets across North America."
According to the FPHL website, the Hudson Valley Venom aren't a new team, however, they were rebranded in December 2024. In a post on the Hudson Valley Venom website they explain "the Hudson Valley Venom has been acquired by PKB LLC. Effective immediately, the team will be rebranded as HC Venom and will continue to compete for the remainder of the season under its new ownership."
Hudson Valley Venom Kick Off First Season in Poughkeepsie, NY
Back on January 17th, 2025 The Hudson Valley Venom took the ice for the first time at the MJN Convention Center.
In a statement posted online, head coach of Hudson Valley Venom M.J. Maerkl said:
We are extremely thankful to team up with the good people from the MJN Convention Center and McCann Arena to work side by side and make sure our new home experience is a success for everyone, most importantly our passionate fans, whose support means everything to us”

What Happened to The Hudson Valley Vipers?
Although their names are very similar, there is no affiliation between the Hudson Valley Venom and Hudson Valley Vipers.
In late 2024 we learned that the Hudson Valley Vipers, a Senior AAA full contact minor-league hockey team that drew big crowds to the MJN Convention Center in Poughkeepsie, was changing venues.
In a statement on social media the Hudson Valley Vipers said they were moving their Viper Pit to Brewster Ice Arena.

However, shortly after the new year and that announcement the Hudson Valley Vipers announced they were "hibernating" for the 2025 season explaining:
"We believe that the current travel challenges would hinder their ability to compete at the level they desire."
The Hudson Valley Vipers did mention that they would be working to returning next season to the American Premier Hockey League.
