For those of you who are like me and enjoy heading to a farm market for seasonal vegetables, you should know that one of the markets has closed down. If you have driven through New Paltz over the last couple of years you certainly noticed the market.

The New Paltz Open Air Market has been around for a few summers. Held Sundays June to October the market has been a staple in an old bank parking lot for years. Usually running from 10 AM to 3 PM the market was there for locals and tourists to enjoy.

Weekly Farmers Market Closes Suddenly in Ulster County

Unfortunately without any real notice, the New Paltz Open Air Market posted on their social media that they would be closing for the rest of the season. If you go to the market's website there is no mention of the closure. The notice was shared on their Facebook page.

As you might imagine fans of the market were disappointed. In comments, one person asked why the sudden cancelation of the rest of the season, and the reply was that they were having trouble getting vendors to participate.

Like most markets, this one was convenient for people who were walking through the Village of New Paltz. They would set up on Sundays on Main Street making it easy for people walking around town to visit the market.

The good news in all of this though is that New Paltz still has a farmers' vendor market. Earlier this summer a new market started up at the Ulster County Fairgrounds. The Hudson Valley Open Market has been running for over a month. They open on Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM on the Fairgrounds property at 249 Libertyville Road in New Paltz, New York.

This market is not located in an area you can walk to from town but is centrally located to anyone driving through New Paltz and that part of Ulster County. They have food, farm and craft vendors plus they have entertainment. This week you can catch Aerial Silk Artist Gabrielle Simard.
