Did a Hallmark movie give a cute nod to the Hudson Valley this holiday season?

Hallmark + Netflix Team Up To Bring Holiday Spirit to Streaming Fans

Once the last trick-or-treaters left, some of us flipped the lights and brought in the holiday spirit. Those who want to feel the holiday spirit, but don't want to put up the tree or inflate the lawn ornaments can snuggle up to watch a fun holiday movie.

This year, made for TV Christmas movies from Hallmark are popping up on Netflix. According to Variety, Hallmark Christmas films from 2023 (which aren't available yet on the Hallmark streaming app) have made their way to Netflix.

Movies like "A Biltmore Christmas," "A Merry Scottish Christmas,” and “Christmas on Cherry Lane” have all been added.

Another film called Christmas With a Kiss was added as well and has a cute and kind of confusing tie to the Hudson Valley.

Hallmark Christmas Movie's Cute Nod to the Hudson Valley

I'll go ahead and admit that I am one of those people that needs a little Christmas cheer after all the spookiness of the Halloween holiday.

With that being said, Netflix knows me too well and suggested I watch Christmas with a Kiss. The movie was part of the original Hallmark Christmas movie line up last year. It's like most of the made for TV holiday movies. A woman living in the big city has to return home for festive family fun and falls in love.

You get the gist.

The main character in Christmas with a Kiss, Mona (played by Mishael Morgan) is a social media manager in New York City and is unlucky in the love department. She returns home to help her family with their Christmas festival and while at home she gets herself into a little love triangle.

Mona says at one point she is going to visit her parents "Upstate" and adds that the small town is called Milton.

This could be a cute Hudson Valley shout out, but it's a bit confusing because there are 2 Milton New York's! One is the Milton in Ulster County, while the other Milton is located in Saratoga County.

We'll take it either way.

What makes it even more confusing is that the movie wasn't filmed in either Milton NY towns. According to IMDB, Christmas with a Kiss was filmed in Milton...Ontario, Canada.

Did you realize there were that many Milton's?

If Hudson Valley Towns Were Christmas Movies

Poughkeepsie is Die Hard and Newburgh is The Grinch. It just makes sense right? What Christmas Movie would your hometown be?

Spirit Halloween Relaunches Spirit Christmas with 3 New York Locations

Spirit Christmas is a seasonal retail store operated by Spencer Spirit Holdings. A sister brand to Spirit Halloween, the store offers various decorations and costumes for the Christmas season, along with visits from Santa Claus. If you're expecting it to be a spooky kind of Christmas store, don't. It will be a tried and true Christmas store.

At some point, the 1990’s incarnation of the store was discontinued. Spencer Gifts tested the concept themselves after acquiring the Spirit Halloween brand in 1999, operating their own Spirit Christmas stores in 2005 and 2006. In 2024, the store was revived once more, with 10 locations set to open.
