Update on Animals Injured in Jennings Creek Wildfire
Jennings Creek Wildfire Continues to Burn on NY-NJ Border
A wildfire has been burning across the New York and New Jersey boarder for almost 10 days now.
The Jennings Creek Wildfire was ignited back on November 9th, 2024 and for days fire crews have been hard at work trying to contain the blaze.
A week after the initial fire began, fire jumped containment lines sending crews back to work. As of November 18th, 2024 the fire is 90% contained according to The Town of Warwick.
Bear Found Injured on Smoldering NY-NJ Wildfire Remains
As the Jennings Creek Wildfire continued to burn, animals in the region were scattering searching for safety.
The Last Resort Wildlife Refuge, based near the New Jersey side of the wildfire, has been working overtime making sure the wild animals in the region find safety. As much as the wildfire is effecting human life, it is destroying the habitat of Hudson Valley and New Jersey wildlife.

On Tuesday November 12th, 2024, Last Resort Wildlife Refuge, along with a handful of other agencies, located an injured female bear in the smoldering remains of the Jennings Creek Wildfire.
Thankfully, they were able to relocated the bear who only suffered minor burns and scrapes.
Update on Animals Injured in Jennings Creek Wildfire
Several animals have been taken in by the team at Last Resort Wildlife Refuge. Besides the injured bear, there were a handful of other animals that were in need of assistance.
Last Resort shared that they had taken in skunks, opossums, foxes, and beavers and brought them to safety.
As the wildfire continues to burn, Last Resort shared an update on one of their current tenants... Baked Potato.
Baked Potato a young female groundhog "who was burned in the local fires and suffered from smoke inhalation."
Thanks to all the donations and support from the community, Last Resort was able to provide the injured groundhog with nebulizer and oxygen therapy, fluids, pain management and burn treatment all of which will assist her in what Last Resort is calling a full recovery.
