Is Stewart’s Trolling the Hudson Valley with Their Latest Post?

Pardon me if I'm the most gullible (or out-of-touch) person on the planet, but I can't get over a recent social media post from one of the Hudson Valley's favorite convenience stores.

From their award-winning milk and ice cream to the wonderful work they do with the local community through their annual Holiday Match program, there's a lot to love about Stewart's. That's what makes their recent proclamation so surprising.

"Controversial" Sandwich from Stewart's Shops in the Hudson Valley

The controversial post was meant to be a festive celebration of the fall season in the Hudson Valley, and while Stewart's products like their fan-favorite eggnog fits that theme perfectly (have you tried their new refresher flavors?), a different offering has many Hudson Valley residents scratching their heads (it's me, I'm Hudson Valley resident).

Stewart's Promotes Peanut Butter and Butter Sandwich for the Fall Season

"A PB&B on a crisp fall day? It doesn't get more upstate than that!", began their recent Facebook post (below). "And yep, B is for BUTTER". After I picked my jaw off the floor, I had to do some research; was this a real product or just Stewart's Shops' social media manager rage-baiting the Hudson Valley?

First of all, what? Second of all... WHAT?! As a near lifelong Hudson Valley resident (and lifelong Stewart's fan), not only had I never seen such a sandwich in their stores, I'd never heard of the combination at all. I checked the comment section for clarification, but it only made things worse.

New Yorkers React to Peanut Butter and Butter Sandwiches

"Never heard of butter and peanut butter! Am I learning of another "upstate" thing?", asked one confused commenter. "I feel heard! I've been eating PB&B since I was a kid, and most of my family thinks it's weird - they just don't know!", came the counterpoint. "Quit putting butter on a peanut butter hard roll... please", said someone who seemed over the whole thing.

An informal survey of coworkers revealed that while everyone loves Stewart's Shops, not a single person had heard of the allegedly perfect fall snack. I guess I know where I'm stopping on the way home...
