Multiple Hudson Valley fire departments responded to a call on Sunday evening after receiving reports of a large fire in Ulster County that was visible from the New York State Thruway.

Due to its specific location on one of the Hudson Valley's many backroads, the Plattekill Fire Department reported that the fire took several attempts to pinpoint, with calls describing an emergency "near Eagles Nest Road" and another reporting the fire at Plattekill Ardonia Road and Sunny Acres Road. Finally, an exact location was received, naming Lindsell Way as the correct address (below).

Large Structure Fire in Wallkill, NY

What was initially reported as a residential fire turned out to be several fires burning what were described as "large livestock buildings". While the Plattekill Fire Department reported that an estimated 30 birds unfortunately perished in the blaze, other animals, including pets, were able to be rescued. From the PFD:

Arriving crews aided property owners in removing some livestock and three dogs from the buildings. During this process, a firefighter from Modena Fire Department was bitten by one of the dogs. The firefighter was evaluated on scene by Ambulance 647, and did not require hospital transport, and declined further medical care

The PFD shared that multiple structures meant to house livestock were completely destroyed in the recent fire (Plattekill Fire Department via Facebook)
