A Hudson Valley teen, who happens to be the fastest girl in U.S. history, just became the first in history to be named a Gatorade Athlete of the Year in two sports.

On Tuesday, Katelyn Tuohy of Rockland County was named the Gatorade Female High School Athlete of the Year.

The 16-year-old who just completed her sophomore year at North Rockland High School is the first athlete in Gatorade's 33-year award's history to be named the best national athlete in two sports, cross country and track and field.

On top of that, on Wednesday, Tuohy was named the National Prep Female Athlete of the Year at the 2018 ESPYS.

"I can hear my heart beating in my chest," Tuohy said while accepting the award on stage, according to ESPN. "This award is the most prestigious honor. Not only does it exemplify your athletic performance, but your academic performance and your character. I'm just so thankful to receive this award."

In June, Tuohy, who has a 4.69 GPA, broke a 36-year-old old record, becoming the fastest high school girl to run an outdoor mile in U.S. history. She ran the outdoor mile in 4:33.87.

It was her third national record in 2018. She set the outdoor two-mile record in 9:51.29 and the indoor 5K record in 15:37.12, according to FloTrack.

In a recent article, the New York Times called Tuohy "America’s Next Great Running Hope," adding she seems destined for "Olympic medals."
