A number of Hudson Valley school district's are losing students by alarming rates. One local area has nearly 60% fewer students.

Recently, UpNY.com looked into data from the New York State Department of Education to find out which school districts in "Upstate NY," are losing students at high rates.

The website listed the top 50 schools by comparing student enrollment from the 2012-2013 school year to the 2017-2018 school year. The school ranked first, which is in the Hudson Valley, lost the most students during the time period.

Below is the list of schools from the local area that made the list.

#37 Pine Plains Central School District (Dutchess County)

  • Student enrollment in 2017: 903
  • 5-year percentage change: -15.8%

#34 Eldred Central School District (Sullivan County)

  • Student enrollment in 2017: 546
  • 5-year percentage change: -16.1%

#31 Millbrook Central School District (Dutchess County)

  • Student enrollment in 2017: 950
  • 5-year percentage change: -16.4%

#27 Sullivan West Central School District (Sullivan County)

  • Student enrollment in 2017: 1007
  • 5-year percentage change: -16.8%

#24 Chatham Central School District (Columbia County)

  • Student enrollment in 2017: 1,031
  • 5-year percentage change: -17.3%

#1 Tuxedo Union Free School District (Orange County)

  • Student enrollment in 2017: 240
  • 5-year percentage change: -59.4%
