Hudson Valley Man Arrested For Fleeing Scene of Fatal Accident
An unlicensed Hudson Valley man is accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal accident.
On Saturday around 7:30 p.m., the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office responded to Route 376 near Maloney Road in Wappinger for a report of a serious crash with possible entrapment.
Arriving officers found 71-year-old Anita Duncan of Hopewell Junction trapped in her car. She was removed from her car and taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.
Duncan was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
A preliminary investigation found that Duncan’s 2008 Subaru was hit head-on by a 2013 BMW driving in the other direction, police say.
The two cars collided and then hit another vehicle, a 2006 Dodge owned by a 25-year-old from Kingston. The 25-year-old wasn’t injured.
According to authorities, the driver of the BMW, 27-year-old Anthony J. Testerman of Wappinger, failed to keep right.
Testerman is accused of fleeing the scene on foot. He was soon found by a Sheriff’s Office K-9.
Testerman was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, a felony, circumventing an interlock device, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, criminal possession of marijuana, misdemeanors and a traffic infraction for refusal to submit to a breath test.
Testerman was remanded to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. Police are continuing their investigation into the crash.
