Police are investigating following a serious hit-and-run in the Hudson Valley early Friday morning.

Just after midnight on Friday, someone was hit by a car in front of 245 Broadway in the City of Newburgh, between Carpenter Avenue and Lutheran Street.

Police arrived and found the victim unconscious and bleeding very badly, according to a police scanner. As of this writing, the name and gender of the victim aren't known.

The victim was rushed by ambulance to St. Lukes-Cornwall Hospital in serious condition, sources tell Hudson Valley Post.

Witnesses told police the car that hit the person fled the scene, according to Mark Lieb of Rockland Video Productions. The vehicle is unknown at this time.

Police set up a crime scene and conducted their investigation until the early Friday morning and searched the area looking for the suspect's vehicle.
