The man accused of firing a gun inside a crowded Hudson Valley mall has turned himself in.

Early Wednesday morning, Monticello police announced that the suspect is in custody. The alleged gunman, 27-year-old Michael Perez Rodriguez of Forest City, P.A., was then turned over to Wallkill police. CBS reports Rodriguez's parents live in Sullivan County.

On Wednesday, Rodriguez was charged with reckless endangerment and misdemeanor assault. Gun charges weren't filed because Rodriguez has a legal concealed carry permit, police say.

It's still unclear if the shot was fired on purpose or by accident.

The shooting suspect turned himself in just hours after police released photos and videos from the mall. Video shows a man, woman and two small children enter the mall and later leave after the shooting took place.

On Sunday around 3:15 p.m., police responded to the Galleria at Crystal Run for reports of shots fired, resulting in the evacuation of the mall.

Arriving officers found a 49-year-old mother from Goshen and her 12-year-old son suffering from minor leg wounds. It’s believed the two were hit with bullet fragments or shattered glass, police say. They were treated and released from Orange Regional Medical Center.

Police described the gunman as being 6’2” white or Hispanic with dark hair, a dark beard and a mustache. He was seen wearing a dark jacket and gray pants.

Officials say the man left the mall in the company of a white or Hispanic woman with blonde hair and two small children, an infant and a child around the age of three. The woman was around 5’4” wearing maroon pants and a dark jacket.
