An Avilla, Indiana woman is recovering after accidentally being shot in the foot. Thing is, the alleged shooter is her dog. The dog's name also happens to be Trigger.

Yes, this really happened.

The Indy Star reports that 25-year-old Allie Carter was out hunting Saturday when the incident took place. Police say she was hunting waterfowl in the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area when she placed her 12-gauge shotgun on the ground.

A press release from the state's Department of Natural Resources says that her dog, Trigger, stepped on the shotgun, releasing the trigger and shooting Carter in the foot. The gun's safety was off.

Carter was transported to the hospital for injuries to her left foot and toes.  The Associated Press reports she was treated and released.

Indiana Conservation Officers are using the incident as a chance to educate people about gun safety. The officers remind gun owners to point the muzzle of the firearm in a safe direction and use the safety mechanism.
