Are you saying it right? You may have lived in the Hudson Valley your whole life and you may not even know what their real names are.

I still have a lot to learn about this area. I'm still fairly new to the Hudson Valley but I'm starting to get the lingo down. For instance, I know that the big bridge that just got blown up, you know the one that connects Tarrytown to Nyack is called the Tappan Zee Bridge. It may be called the Tappan Zee Bridge but it's really named the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. Does anyone actually call it that? I did know that one but there are a few I wasn't sure of.

I bet you've been calling it Mount Beacon for years. It's not actually named that either. It's really called Beacon Mountain.

When you hop on I-87 did you know you're actually getting on the Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway?

There's usually traffic on something called the Bear Mountain Bridge but what is that exactly? Its real name is the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge.

What about Bannerman Island? No, Bannerman Castle is on an island called Pollepel. Bannerman island does not exist here in the Hudson Valley.

Are there more landmarks in the Hudson Valley that have two names?
