Why Are Painted Horses Taking Over Saugerties?
Have you visited Saugerties lately? Have you noticed the painted horses lining the streets of the town? Each year the Saugerties Chamber of Commerce holds an art based fundraiser. This year's features horses--29 of them--each painted by a different artist with a different theme.
The horses have been gallopin' on the streets of Saugerties since Memorial Day and will continue to be on display through just after Labor Day. People are invited to tour the town, walk around and see each one of the horses. If you fall in love with a particular one (or many of them) you are invited to attend the Gallopin' Gala & Auction on Sept. 17 when the horses will be auctioned off.
The auction and gala will be held at Saugerties Performing Arts Factory. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Tickets are available through their website or can be purchased at Town & Country Liquors, Smith Hardware and Sawyer Savings.
