Four women from the Hudson Valley are accused of stealing over $10,000 in combined welfare fraud.

Amy Webb of Marlboro was charged with welfare fraud and offering a false instrument for filing, felonies.

An investigation discovered that Webb allegedly failed to report employment and income in a SNAP application filed in May 2017. This resulted in Webb receiving $4,268 in SNAP benefits to which she was not entitled, police say.

Tara Garcia of Pine Bush allegedly didn’t report income for nine months in 2017. She is accused of receiving $2,403 in SNAP benefits that she was not entitled to. She was charged with welfare fraud, offering a false instrument for filing and grand larceny.

Serena Ledsome of Catskill is accused of not reporting income for four months. She allegedly received $1,701 in Temporary Assistance benefits and $409 in SNAP benefits. She was charged with welfare fraud and two counts of offering a false instrument for filing, felonies.

Jacqueline Watt of Highland, a daycare provider, repeatedly falsified paperwork submitted to the daycare unit as a daycare provider for one year, police say.

Watt allegedly received $1,298.70 in daycare payments that she was not entitled to. She was charged with welfare fraud and 12 counts of offering a false instrument for filing, felonies.

All four arrests came after investigations conducted by the Ulster County Department of Social Services Special Investigation Unit in conjunction with the Office of the Ulster County District Attorney.

“Every stolen taxpayer dollar is money that cannot go to help someone truly in need and by stopping Welfare fraud and abuse we can save taxpayer money which is our fiscal responsibility,” Ulster County Executive Mike Hein said.
