Three Hudson Valley residents were killed after a car caught fire. The fire then spread to a home.

New York State Police from Poughkeepsie are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Monday around 10:45 p.m., on State Route 82 in the town of Stanford.

An initial investigation suggests the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer left the road and struck a tree, police say.

The Blazer caught fire after hitting a tree and the fire spread to a nearby house. The house fire was put out by the Stanfordville Fire Department.

According to State Police, the driver and a front seat passenger were pronounced dead on the scene. Another passenger was airlifted to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The names are being withheld at this time pending notification to family members.

According to NBC, the deceased are a 35-year-old man, a 46-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman. All three are from Dutchess County.

One person who was in the house when it caught fire wasn't hurt.
