Two teenagers suffered life-threatening injuries after their car hit a tree in Dutchess County.

On Tuesday around 10 p.m., the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office investigated a serious one-car crash on Feller Newmark Road in the Town of Red Hook.

A 2004 Nissan 350Z was traveling east on Feller Newmark Road, a quarter mile from Route 9, when the driver, 17-year-old Erik Johnson of Red Hook lost control while passing another vehicle, police say. The Nissan left the roadway and struck a tree on the southern shoulder.

Johnson and 18-year-old Liam O’Farrell, also from Red Hook, suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospitals for treatment.

Johnson was airlifted to Albany Medical Center and O’Farrell was driven by ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional.

O'Farrerll plays on the Red Hook high school varsity soccer, wrestling, and lacrosse teams, reports LaxLessons.

Both were wearing seat-belts at the time of the crash. Unsafe speed appears to be the cause of the accident, authorities say.

The Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene and is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Red Hook Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics. More information may be released as it becomes available.
