What would you do if you found yourself in this situation?

Why would it be okay for some random kid to touch my food before I eat it?

Over the Labor Day weekend, my wife and I decided to take advantage of some back-to-school sales. The kids were taken care of, so we figured we would grab ourselves some clothes.

For starters, I hate the mall. It's never a fun experience, and quite frankly, people suck. Considering it was Labor Day weekend, I knew what I was doing to myself. However, It wasn't all that bad, until the end...

Once we were done shopping, on our way out of the mall we decided to stop and grab a pretzel. How could you not want one with that delicious smell filling that section of the mall?

Would she be okay with me touching her pretzels?

Anyway, we're waiting to place our order. There was a lady in front of me with two children, I'm guessing her grandchildren. One of the clerks was helping her and the kids, and another employee took our order. We placed our order, and the girl placed our pretzels on the counter and went to fill our drinks.

Now the fun part. The little girl in front of me, probably somewhere between 8 and 10 years old, started touching my pretzel on the counter! I know, I know... So, I said "Excuse me, could you please not touch my pretzel, thank you". Well, Grandma didn't like that I said that, and quickly replied, "well, I think they're ours." I informed her that the girl had placed them on the counter for us, and she said "okay."

When the clerk who was assisting them went to grab THEIR pretzels, the grandmother said, "we'll take this one if she touched it, so you don't get our cooties". She said it really snotty and sarcastic. Instead of arguing with her, I decided to pick my battles.

Why would it be okay for some random kid to touch my food before I eat it? Would she be okay with me touching her pretzels? We're in a mall, who knows the things the kid has touched during their visit. I wasn't rude, I was very polite about it. It's not my fault you took offense to it, lady.

What's your opinion, was I wrong for stopping the kid from touching my pretzel? Leave your feedback.
